The History of our Department

The I.E.R.D. (International Economic Relations and Development) department was founded in the year 1999 at the city of Komotini. It is one of the 5 University of Thrace new departments (the other were created at Xanthi, Aleksandroupolis and Orestiada). The department started functioning at the 5th wing of the law school new building in the still developping Komotini Campus.
The I.E.R.D. department is a department of the Economic Science equal of all the other greek economic departments. The courses of the two starting years (4 semesters) of the educational program are studied from all of the students, while for the last two years the students must choose a scientific direction between the following ones:

1. International and European Economic Relations.
2. Economic Collaboration and Intra-Balkanic Relations.
3. International Business Relations.

The program of the courses is planned based on the need for knowledge, academic ethics, educational experience, and the international standards of the Economic Science today. The educationnal program can be modified when the department board decides so.

The department has a computer lab offering computer knowledge and experience to the students. The department offers a wide collection of scientific textbooks of the economic science in the library of the Law School.

The I.E.R.D. department is in collaboration with many foreign Universities (Montpelier I, II, University of VALAHIA) under the SOCRATES network. We already established an interchange network for students and professors between ours and selected eductional institutes.
