The second meeting of the TSGeneSEE team takes place in Budapest, Hungary.

In conjunction with the International Conference held by the European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the 2nd meeting of the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome, the TSGeneSEE team met in Budapest in order to discuss the progress of the project, coordinate future efforts and set immediate goals towards the achievement of the overall aims of the project.

The TSGeneSEE team joins the Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome Genomewide Association Study Replication Initiative (GGRI).

At a workshop held in Bethesda,MD, funded by the NINDS, a new consortium of investigators studying hte genetic basis of TS was formed. The GGRI is a team of researchers from more than 15 countries from around the world, who have joined their efforts in order to collect a large independent sample from individuals with TS, with a goal to replicate the findings of the recent Genomewide Association Study (GWAS) performed by the Tourette Syndrome Genetics International Consortium for Genetics (unpublished). It is estimated that through this initiative more than 1,500 DNA samples from individuals with TS are going to be contributed towards the aims of the GGRI. An equal number of ancestry matched controls is also going to become available for the purposes of this study. Together with the results of the TSAICG GWAS, the GGRI holds the promise to uncover the genetic background of TS.
