Christos Papatheodorou is Vice Rector for Finance, Planning & Development of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Athens, Greece) and Professor of Social Policy and Director of Postgraduate Studies at the Department of Social Policy. He is a graduate in Economics (First Class Hons) from the Department of Economic Sciences, University of Athens and holds an MSc in Social Policy Analysis from the University of Bath, and a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). At the LSE he also did his postdoctoral research (postdoctoral fellow at LSE-STICERD).

He was Dean of the School of Social, Political and Economic Sciences, and Professor of Social Policy at the Department of Social Administration and Political Science, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. He was Head of the Research Unit “Social Policy, Poverty and Inequalities”, Labor Institute, Greek General Confederation of Labour (2010-2016). He was a Researcher at the Institute of Social Policy, National Centre for Social Research (Athens). He was Senior Research Associate for the Greek Observatory on Poverty, Inequalities, Income and Social Exclusion, UADPhilEcon, University of Athens (2007-2009). He served as Deputy Head of the Department of Social Administration, Democritus University of Thrace (2010-2012). He is a founder member of the Hellenic Social Policy Association and was chairman 2010-2011 and a board member 2002-2008. He was a visiting academic at LSE-STICERD and a visiting professor at the Dept of Sociology, VU Amsterdam. His main areas of research interests and publications are in the fields of political economy of social policy, economic inequality, income distribution and redistribution, poverty and social exclusion, intergenerational consequences of inequality, distributional impact of government policies, macroeconomic environment and social protection, functional and personal distribution of income. A significant part of his published work focuses on the comparative analysis of economic inequality and poverty between Mediterranean and EU countries and between welfare regimes. He has participated in a large number of research projects in the above fields. His work has been published in books, research monographs, articles, book chapters and research reports, and has been presented in many conferences. Also short articles and interviews on issues related to inequality, poverty, social policy and economic crisis have been published in the Greek and foreign press. He has been an invited speaker in radio an TV programs. |
