Nikolaos Kotsovinos is Emeritus Professor in the School of Civil Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace ( teaching as full professor for 34 years , from 1977 up to 2011 ) .

WORK EXPERIENCE- AREAS OF RESEARCH INTEREST
He has a strong background in fluid mechanics .He supervised many research projects and PH.D. thesis in the hydraulic laboratory of DUTH. He has extensive consulting and teaching experience in various scientific areas of hydraulics , hydrology and hydraulic structures : a) hydraulic physical modeling ,b) surface water hydrology and hydrologic engineering ,surface water runoff hydrographs; flood routing; flood mitigation , c) Dam break analysis and inundation maps, d) environmental Engineering, design of submarine pipes and diffusers to disperse wastewater water from WWTP, e) dam weirs- cavitation , e) small hydro plant , f) beach erosion problems, g) waste water treatment plants h) large scale environmental flows (numerical simulation and physical modeling in a rotating turn table)
