Abstract Having adopted the Action Research method, which on the basis of the St. Kemmis’ model had been organized as a four phases cyclical process (planning, action, observation, reflection), we used drama in the communicative approach language teaching in the primary school and we found that it can be an interesting and innovating teaching method. The inquiry drama improved the children’s communicative competence and it created authentic and inquiring learning environment. Besides, the teachers’ engagement in the Action Research allowed them to investigate their work, connecting teaching with education theory, while it also changed their point of view, improved their practice and personal development.
